Family and dramatic play
By acting out their experiences children make sense of what's happening in their lives, making links with their family and the wider world.
As they play with other children, opportunities to learn with and alongside others are encouraged, enhancing their social and communication skills. They develop creativity, problem solving skills and a range of strategies for solving conflicts in peaceful ways. Children will develop an increasing ability to take another person's point of view, as they learn about sharing and cooperation.
Some ways for adults to support children's learning
-
Set aside a special area for family and dramatic play Encourage children to enjoy family and dramatic play throughout the play area
-
Provide a wide range of materials and equipment and encourage children to use them
-
Discuss the children's ideas with them and help them put them into practice.
