Limited Attendance Services consultation
Cabinet has approved a regulatory regime for a new type of early childhood education (ECE) centre called limited attendance ECE centres. Children may only attend these centres for up to two hours a day and for no more than six hours in any week. A parent or caregiver must be close by, contactable, and able to resume responsibility for children at short notice.
These centres will be subject to a "light" regulatory regime which will be suitable for facilities such as gyms and fitness centres. Standards and criteria are currently being developed for this service type and the Minister of Education wishes to consult on the suitability of the proposed criteria.
Feedback must be back to us by 5pm, 13 June 2008.
Note: The consultation period for the proposed licensing criteria for limited attendance centres has now closed. The ministry wishes to thank everyone for their feedback, which we are now reviewing.
