Conventions

Wording conventions:

The following wording conventions apply to the specifications set out in this document:

  • The word shall (bold italics) defines a mandatory requirement of this specification.
  • The word should (bold italics) defines a strong recommendation but not a mandatory requirement of this specification.
  • The word may (bold italics) defines an optional aspect which should be considered.

Acronyms and Abbreviations:

  • CRT - Cathode Ray Tube
  • DHCP - Dynamic Host Control Protocol
  • DNS - Domain Name System serves as the internet ‘phone book’ by translating human-readable computer hostnames into the IP addresses
  • ECE - Early Childhood Education
  • ICT - Information and Communication Technology
  • IP - Internet Protocol
  • NAT - Network Address Translation
  • OEM - Original Equipment Manufacturer - where one company uses a component from another company within its product.
  • QoS - Quality of Service –prioritization protocols for time sensitive data transmission
  • RJ45 - Registered Jack 45 (USOC reference)
  • RU - Rack Units (1RU = 44.5 mm)
  • SPI - Stateful Packet Inspection
  • VPN - Virtual Private Networking
  • WLAN - Wireless Local Area Network
