ICT infrastructure networking
Introduction
This document covers the functional and technical requirements for setting up an ICT system, as well as issues around safety and security. It is mostly intended for the people who are setting up your system.

Purpose
This document has been prepared by the Ministry of Education for use by New Zealand Early Childhood Education Services and other organisations which participate in the design and implementation of ICT infrastructures for those Services. The document addresses the selection and use of active networking equipment as a means of setting up basic computer workgroups and sharing network resources.
It provides information on:
- The functional requirements for active equipment
- Technical requirements for active equipment
- Simple network architectures
- Interoperability and sustainability
- Implementing safe and secure networks
- The safe and secure use of the equipment
Scope
This document addresses ICT infrastructures for New Zealand Early Childhood Education Services. It is limited to the selection of equipment and choice of network architectures for small and basic peer-to-peer computer networks of no more than 10 computers.
