ICT infrastructure

Summary

One of the advantages of Information Communication Technology (ICT) is that computers and other electronic devices can communicate with each other and access the internet.

Creating a network for your Early Childhood Education centre is a valuable way to share resources like videos, sounds and documents. Several computers and other devices can be connected in a network via cables or remote access, so that information can be shared between them.

There are various factors to consider when installing an ICT network. Safety and security are the most important, especially when the main users are children. There are also considerations like storing and backing up data, and guarding against viruses.

This section contains four documents which deal with ICT in early childhood services. The ‘Security and cybersafety’ document goes into depth about these considerations, while the "Purchasing ICT" deals with that subject in particular. The other two documents are intended as guidelines for engineers, builders and technicians to install your networking system.
