Playgroup (operational) funding (PG3)

Introduction

Playgroup Funding is intended to assist playgroups to meet their ongoing operational costs.

Eligibility

To be eligible to receive Playgroup Funding a playgroup must:

  • be certificated (that is hold a valid interim or full certificate); or
  • be licence-exempt under Section 319 of the Education Act 1989; and
  • meet the conditions for payment of funding set out in this Handbook.

Note: Playgroups established after 1 December 2008 must be certificated to be eligible for funding.

After 30 November 2014 the funding of licence-exempt playgroups will cease and only certificated playgroups will be eligible to receive funding.

Funding rate

The funding rate for all playgroups is $1.44 per hour per child. Playgroup Funding is not GST applicable.

Funding dates

Playgroup Funding is paid mid-April and mid-October each year. A payment advice notice will be sent to all playgroups that receive funding detailing the amount they have been paid.

The mid-April payment covers the period 1 January to 30 June of the calendar year.

The mid-October payment covers the period 1 July to 31 December of the calendar year.

Updating contact details

It is very important that playgroups keep their local ECE Coordinator up to date with any changes to contact details for the person responsible for each playgroup's funding. Any changes in bank account details must also be passed on to the Ministry. If this is not done there is a risk that the playgroup may miss out on Ministry funding in the future.
