Grants
The Ministry offers a number of financial assistance options for students working towards their first Early Childhood teaching qualification that leads to registration as a teacher. Below is a brief description of each:
Study grants
These grants are worth $3000 (GST inclusive) and are available to people who already hold or are enrolled in particular qualifications. It is intended that the Study Grant is used to contribute towards study costs.
Incentive grants
These grants are paid to licensed teacher-led ECE services to contribute to the costs faced when supporting staff members gain a first ECE teaching qualification approved by the New Zealand Teachers Council. An Incentive Grant is worth $2094 (GST inclusive) for each successful application every year. ECE services may apply for up to $7329 in total per staff member over a three and a half year period.
