Study grant information and application form 2009

As part of the government’s commitment to increasing the supply of qualified early childhood education (ECE) teachers, as set out in the ten year ECE strategic plan, Study Grants are provided to support people to transition to the ECE sector.

Aim

ECE Study Grants are to support students who hold particular qualifications to gain their first early childhood teaching qualification that leads to registration as an early childhood teacher.  Study Grants contribute towards the costs that students face while studying.

Study Grants of $3000 may be applied for by:

  • qualified primary teachers who enrol in a NZ Teachers Council-approved programme of early childhood teacher education;
  • primary student teachers who change their programme of study from primary to a NZ Teachers Council-approved programme of early childhood teacher education; or
  • degree-holders who enrol in a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (ECE) at the University of Auckland Faculty of Education, Victoria University of Wellington College of Education, University of Waikato School of Education, University of Otago College of Education or University of Canterbury College of Education.

Key information

Study Grants are a one-off payment of $3000 (applicants are only able to receive the Study Grant once).  Approved Study Grant applicants will receive the payment in one instalment of $3000, four to six weeks after the closing date.  Payments will be made directly into the bank account specified by the applicant on the application form.

There are two Study Grant rounds a year.  The first grant round for 2009 will open on 16 February 2009 and close on 20 March 2009.  The second grant round opens on 3 August 2009 and will close on 4 September 2009.
