ICT in early childhood education centres

Summary

One of the advantages of Information Communication Technology (ICT) is that computers and other electronic devices can communicate with each other and access the internet.

Creating a network for your Early Childhood Education centre is a valuable way to share resources like videos, sounds and documents. Several computers and other devices can be connected in a network via cables or remote access, so that information can be shared between them.

There are various factors to consider when installing an ICT network. Safety and security are the most important, especially when the main users are children. There are also considerations like storing and backing up data, and guarding against viruses.

This section contains three documents which deal with ICT in early childhood services. The ‘Security and cybersafety’ document goes into depth about these considerations. The other two documents are intended as guidelines for engineers, builders and technicians to install your networking system.

Security and cybersafety

This section outlines the things you can do to protect yourself and your ECE centre’s system from viruses, spam and other inappropriate content.

It also talks about the ways you can protect your information, including ways to back it up, passwords and other authentication methods.

ICT infrastructure networking

This document covers the functional and technical requirements for setting up an ICT system, as well as issues around safety and security. It is mostly intended for the people who are setting up your system.

ICT infrastructure cabling

This is meant only for the technical engineers who are installing the ICT system in your ECE centre.
