Home-based ECE services

Adult and children at a home group

This area of the site focuses on the information needs of home based early childhood education (ECE) services.

Home-based ECE services are early childhood education and care services that arrange for education and care to be provided to children in private homes. These services are currently regulated by the Education (Home-based care) Order 1992.

In this section you will notice that the generic term ‘adults providing education and care’ has been replaced with the home-based specific terms of ‘educator’ and ‘co-ordinator’. These terms will be defined in regulation.

The new regulatory system including the criteria has been now been approved by the Minister of Education and notices have been published in the New Zealand Gazette.

A copy of the criteria can be downloaded from the right hand column. A printed copy relating to your service type will be posted as soon as the print copies become available.

This section has been updated to reflect the new criteria in the context of the standards and guidance. Please note that the related criteria links section on pages will not be accurate until all sections of the site are complete.
